Dr. J. Ramsey Mellette, MD is board certified in dermatology and dermatopathology and is a fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery. Dr. Mellette, a native of South Carolina, graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1969. He completed his internship at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center (FAMC) and served as a U.S. Army flight surgeon and chief, Aerospace Medical Service, Fort Rucker, Alabama. He completed his dermatology residency at FAMC in 1976 and after practicing general dermatology at Fort Carson, Colorado, he completed an American College of Mohs Surgery fellowship, University of Tennessee Memphis in June 1981. He served as chief of dermatology and dermatology residency program director at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center from 1982 to 1990, retiring from the U.S. Army with the rank of colonel. He became associated with Roaring Fork Dermatology in 1984 where he continues to practice and has been a member of the dermatology faculty at the University of Colorado since July of 1990. He is currently Professor of Dermatology University of Colorado School of Medicine and Director of Dermatologic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology. He is fellowship director, American College of Mohs Surgery, currently training his 18th fellow.
Dr. Mellette has 234 presentations in skin cancer surgery and surgical reconstruction at local, state, national and international meetings and is the author of 45 publications including co-author of Flaps and Grafts in Dermatologic Surgery, Elsevier Health Science, Edinburgh, UK 2007.
