Dr. James Morrill is a primary care physician and medical director at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Charlestown HealthCare Center. He is also an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Morrill received his BA in physics at Harvard College and attended the combined MD/PhD Program at Harvard Medical School, completing a PhD in neurobiology focusing on the electrical activity of nerve and muscle cells. He completed his residency training in internal medicine/primary care at MGH and is board certified in internal medicine.

Dr. Morrill works as a primary care physician, administrator, and clinician-educator, with a particular interest in addiction and its medical consequences, such as viral hepatitis. In addition to helping to organize and teach the outpatient addictions curriculum for MGH residents, he founded and directs the MGH Community Hepatitis C Project and serves on the MGH inpatient Addiction Consult Team (ACT). Since February 2015, he has served as chief of the Adult Medicine Unit at MGH Charlestown, and in January 2017, he took on the role of medical director of the health center.
