Dr. Jean Cook is Associate Dean for Graduate Education and is responsible for the umbrella Biological and Biomedical Sciences program which serves 15 different PhD programs; 10 of these are in the School of Medicine. She leads the Office of Graduate Education which provides a broad range of career and professional development resources and coordinates efforts to recruit and retain a diverse biomedical workforce at UNC. She facilitates interactions with other institutions and UNC schools with repect to PhD student training in the biological and biomedical sciences.
Dr. Cook is currently PI on two R01s funded by the NIH/NIGMS. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that coordinate cell cycle progression in human cells. Her particular emphases includes the regulation of proteins required for the earliest step in DNA replication and control of S phase entry.
