Dr. Jian Wu finished his medical education in 1983, received a master's degree in Medicine from the Southeast University Medical College, Nanjing, China in 1986, and became a specialist in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 1988. Dr. Wu was awarded his Doctorate Degree in Medicine (Ph.D.) from the University of Umeå, Umeå, Sweden in 1994. Then, he was employed as an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine of the same university. After that, he moved to the US to continue his NIH-sponsored research at Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA, USA.
He was employed as an Assistant Professor in 1999 by the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, and promoted to Associate Professor in 2005. Dr. Wu’s research mainly focuses on the development of targeting approaches for drug and gene delivery in the treatment of liver diseases. He has published more than 80 original papers, invited reviews, and book chapters; and his work appears in highly ranked professional journals, such as Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Journal of Hepatology, Cancer Research, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Gene Therapy, Liver Transplantation, Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (JPET), Cell Transplantation, etc.
He has authored two books and owns an internationally registered patent. He has received several research awards at national levels from Sweden, the USA, and China. Dr. Wu has been a well-known expert in targeting drug or gene therapy for liver injury, fibrosis, and cancer; and is becoming a leader in antioxidative gene therapy for liver transplantation. Recently, he has developed a novel molecular therapy using RNAi strategies to inhibit the progression of liver fibrosis and hepatitis viral replication. His cutting-edge research may bring hope to millions of patients with liver disorders.
