Dr. Joachim Wiskemann, MA, Ph.D. is an is Head of the Working Group on Oncological Sports and Exercise Therapy at the National Center for Tumor Diseases. He is also Adjunct Assistant Professor (Public Health) at Penn State University. He has been researching the positive effects of sport and exercise on cancer patients for more than 10 years and has published numerous nationally and internationally renowned scientific works in this context and is one of the leading experts in his field. He is also the head of studies for large mono- and multi-center research projects. The focus of his work is aimed at personalizing sports and exercise therapy for cancer patients. dr Wiskemann founded the "Netzwerk OnkoAktiv" in 2011. which pursues the quality-assured dissemination of oncological sports and exercise therapy throughout Germany. He is also a spokesman for the "National Expert Group for Movement Therapy and Physical Activity in Oncology (NEBKO)" in the German Cancer Society (ASORS - Working Group on Supportive Measures in Oncology, Rehabilitation, and Social Medicine).

Joachim Wiskemann holds a Ph.D. in sports and exercise science and has an additional academic education in sports psychology. He is employed at the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT). As head of the working group "Exercise Oncology " (Division of Medical Oncology, NCT and Heidelberg University Hospital) and principal/co-investigator of several exercise intervention trials in cancer patients he has substantial experience in planning and tailoring exercise programs to cancer patient´s needs and capabilities and conducted exercise studies in cancer patients for more than ten years. Dr. Wiskemann published landmark studies in the field of exercise and hemato-oncology (Blood, 2011) and provided new insights into exercise oncology in a variety of cancer entities.
