Joaquim Ferreira completed his medical degree and PhD in Neurology at the University of Lisbon. He is Professor of Neurology and Clinical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon and Head of the Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. He is currently the coordinator of the Clinical Neuropharmacology Unit of the Neurological Clinical Research Unit of the Institute of Medicine Molecular, and has served as Principal Investigator for multiple clinical trials. 

He has been between September 2010 and May 2012 the Science Director of the European Huntington Disease Network. He is currently serving as member of the EHDN Executive Committee and as lead facilitator of the Neuroprotective Therapy Working Group. He concomitantly serves as chair of the Education Committee of the European Section of the Movement Disorders Society and co-chair of the Membership and Liaison/Public Relations Committee of the Movement Disorders Society. His major clinical and research interests are neuropharmacology, movement disorders, Parkinson’s disease and Huntigton’s disease.
