Professor John Dixon MBBS, Ph.D., FRACGP, FRCP Edin, is a Professorial Research Fellow in Clinical Obesity Research at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia. In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor at both the School of Primary Health Care, Monash University, and the Iverson Health Innovation Research Institute, Swinburne University in Melbourne. An experienced clinician, Professor Dixon has concentrated on obesity research since 1998. Known internationally for his clinical research into obesity and its comorbid conditions as well as weight loss treatments and their effects on health, he has been rated among the top researchers worldwide in the fields of obesity; weight loss; morbid obesity; bariatrics; and bariatric surgery (expertscape.com). He has well over 200 original research and review publications in a wide range of peer-reviewed journals in addition to numerous invited commentaries, guideline and position statements, and book chapters. He was a co-author of the consensus American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, The Obesity Society, and American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery medical guidelines for clinical practice for the perioperative nutritional, metabolic, and nonsurgical support of the bariatric surgery patient in 2009 and the update in 2013.

John is focused on seeing findings translated into clinical practice and on patient advocacy for the obese. He is involved in a wide range of organizations in Australia and internationally, is a member of the scientific advisory council of Obesity Australia, and was president of ANZOS 2007-2009. He is Co-Editor in Chief of Current Obesity Reports, an Associate Editor of Clinical Obesity, Obesity Surgery, and SOARD, and is on the editorial boards of Nutrition and Diabetes, Bariatric News, Diabesity in Practice, and Obesity Science and practice.
