Dr. Jonathan E. Alpert is Associate Chief of Psychiatry for Clinical Services at MGH as well as Director of the Depression Clinical and Research Program. He is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and the first incumbent of the Joyce R. Tedlow Chair in the Field of Depression Studies at Harvard Medical School. He received his BA and MD from Yale University and his Ph.D. in behavioral pharmacology from the University of Cambridge (UK), where he was a Marshall Scholar. He completed residencies at Boston Children's Hospital and at McLean Hospital before joining the MGH Department of Psychiatry in 1992.

Dr. Alpert is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education, Association for Academic Psychiatry, and the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society. He serves on the board of the National Network of Depression Centers and the Scientific Advisory Council of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. He is a recipient of the Cynthia Kettyle Teaching Award from Harvard Medical School, the Psychopharmacology Supervision Awards from trainees of the MGH/McLean Adult Psychiatry Residency, and the Clinical Mentorship Award from the MGH Department of Psychiatry. He has published over 180 original articles and chapters in the areas of depression research, clinical psychopharmacology, and medical education.
