Dr. Jose David Tafu Soto, MD, FACC, FSCAI is an Associate Professor Of Medicine at the Ochsner Clinical School. His primary professional focus has been on interventions for structural heart disease and postgraduate medical education. Dr. Tafur has served on the international committee of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) and on the education standards committee of the American College of Cardiology (ACC). He is a fellow of the ACC and SCAI. Since joining the faculty at Ochsner, he has received teacher, mentor, and research mentor of the year awards. He has authored multiple manuscripts and book chapters in transcatheter aortic valve replacement and peripheral arterial disease. Dr. Tafur is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE), and endovascular medicine by the American Board of Vascular Medicine (ABVM). Dr. Tafur performs complex high-risk coronary interventions, transcatheter valve replacement and repair, peripheral arterial angioplasty and stenting, and percutaneous treatment for deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, amongst other conditions. Dr. Tafur attended medical school at Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia, his hometown. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas in Houston. He continued to do his fellowship in cardiology at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, followed by additional training in interventional cardiology and structural heart disease at Ochsner. He joined the faculty in 2017 and became the cardiovascular disease program director in 2020.
