Dr. Jozef Bartunek is the Associate Director at Cardiovascular Center, OLV Hospital, Aalst Belgium. Dr. Bartunek earned his medical degree at Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovak Republic. He got his internal medicine and cardiology training at University Hospital Bratislava and later Cardiovascular Center Aalst, Belgium where he also completed interventional cardiology training. He was awarded a Fogarty International NIH fellowship and completed it with a focus on molecular physiology in cardiac hypertrophy and failure at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School Boston, MA.
Dr. Bartunek is a clinician with expertise in interventional cardiology, structural heart disease, and heart failure. He pursues his research interests in clinical translational research in heart failure and structural heart disease including the role of biomarkers and molecular phenotyping in heart failure as well as device-based interventions in acute and chronic heart failure. His research and innovation are also driven by the experience from the Global Faculty in Training Program completed at Stanford Biodesign. He is a visiting Professor of Medicine at Catholic University Leuven, Belgium. He has been awarded the Leon Dumont Prize by the Belgian Society of Cardiology. He published more than 300 reviewed articles, serves as editor in several cardiovascular journals, is a board member of EA PCI (2022-2024), and has start-up experience.
