Dr. Julia Anak Patrick Engkasan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Malaya, Malaysia. After graduating in Medicine at the University of Malaya in 1996, she served in various medical disciplines before she decided to embark on the Master of Rehabilitation Specialist training program in 2002 at the University of Malaya. She graduated as a Rehabilitation specialist in 2006 and joined the University of Malaya as an academician. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Medical Decision Making. She is a committee member of the National Specialist Registry and the Rehabilitation Medicine Conjoint Board. She has been an advisor for the Ministry of Health’s project titled ‘Clearing House for Disability Research’ since 2011. She is appointed as the department’s research coordinator, who acts to improve and advance the scholarly activities of the department.
Her main field of interest is in Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation (SCIR). She has been responsible for SCIR services at the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) since 2006, though along her career she has also been involved in other disciplines such as Amputation, Stroke and Paediatric Rehabilitation. She teaches the rehabilitation specialist trainees, medical students, and the nursing department. She is also interested in EBM and received training in teaching EBM from the Centre of EBM in Oxford, the UK. She is actively involved in teaching EBM nationally, a programme that is run regularly by the University of Malaya Epidemiology and EBM Centre (also known as the Julius Centre).
