Dr. Julia Beth Finkelstein is the Director of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety in the Department of Urology. She is a pediatric urologist and clinical researcher formally trained in quality improvement methodology and measurement.
Dr. Finkelstein graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cornell University and earned her medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. She completed her 6-year urology residency training at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. During her 3-year pediatric urology fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital, Dr. Finkelstein completed a fellowship in patient safety and quality improvement through Harvard Medical School and obtained a Master of Public Health degree at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. After training, she served as the Associate Quality and Patient Safety Officer, Telemedicine Champion, and Assistant Professor of Urology for the Department of Urology at Columbia University Medical Center/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Finkelstein is interested in the care of the breadth of pediatric urology patients, including performing inguinal, hypospadias, and robotic surgery. She is committed to improving patient care. As such, her research interests focus on quality improvement and innovation, including the use of telecommunications technology and simulation to better patient care.
