Dr. Gupta is Chief, Section of Infectious Diseases at the Veterans Administration Boston Healthcare System, and Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine. Her primary research focus over the past decade has been on optimizing treatment regimens and prevention strategies for urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women. She is Chair of the IDSA UTI guideline update committee. She is currently PI of a multi-site NIH-funded randomized controlled trial of cranberry juice cocktail to prevent recurrent UTI in women and just completed a randomized trial of short course nitrofurantoin for treatment of acute cystitis in women. As a natural progression of her work on antimicrobial resistance in community-acquired UTIs, she is now embarking on a new research area, namely the evaluation of the prevalence and molecular epidemiology of MRSA infections in the veteran population.
