Kamil Konrad Imbir is an assistant professor, and head of the Department of Personality Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Warsaw. He deals with the relationship between emotions and cognitive processes. These studies discover mechanisms essential for the functioning of people in the private, social, and political spheres. They prove that there are many established common beliefs that contradict scientific knowledge, e.g. that emotions always harm reflective thinking. Dr. hab. Ginger, in addition to classic psychological research, uses neuroimaging techniques, the purpose of which is to learn the mechanisms of the brain's work during the processing of emotional words. His research shows, among others, that positive reflective emotions improve the efficiency of logical thinking and that automatic emotions shape the assessment of newly met people. Dr. hab. Ginger also noticed that words related to automatic and reflective emotions are processed differently in the cerebral cortex. So far, emotions have been treated as something that can only mess up the life of a rational person, but research by Dr. Ginger shows that a certain type, resulting from reflective processes, can be controlled and bring beneficial effects. Research by dr hab. Imbir is published in major international journals, he is also the author of one monograph summarizing his research.
