Dr. med. Georg Kreymann has studied medicine and philosophy at the Universities of Freiburg, Paris, and Berlin. From 1978 until 1989 he performed fellowships in cardiac surgery and internal medicine at the University Medical Centre of Hamburg-Eppendorf, since 1995 he is a professor of internal medicine at the University of Hamburg. From 1991 until 2005 he was head of the medical intensive care unit; in 2005 he was appointed director of the Department of Intensive Care at the same hospital. Since December 2008 he is Medical Director at Baxter. His scientific interest is in hemodynamic changes following cardiac surgery, long-term survival after cardiac surgery, hemodynamic improvement by physiologic pacing, extracorporeal gas exchange in patients with ARDS, and more recently in immunotherapy of septic patients, measurement of oxygen consumption and energy expenditure in intensive care patient, and metabolism and nutrition in critically ill patients. His scientific work includes more than 130 articles, book chapters, and abstracts.
