Dr. Gallagher is an Assistant Professor of Surgery, treating patients at the University of Michigan and at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center. She graduated with highest honors from the University of Maryland with a B.S. in Physiology and Neurobiology in 1998. During this time she was a Howard Hughes Fellow at the NIH studying embryonic hair cell regeneration. She graduated with honors (cum laude) from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2002. She did her General Surgery Residency at the University of Maryland from 2002-2009. During this time she pursued a 2 year Vascular Biology Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania under the mentorship of Dr. Omaida Velazquez. Dr. Gallagher completed her Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical Center/Columbia University Medical Center in 2011.

She is currently a Wylie Scholar in Vascular Surgery (http://www.vascularcures.org/) and a Taubman Emerging Scholar. She has received numerous awards including the Society of Vascular Surgery Women’s Leadership Award, the Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center’s McKay and Heart of Champion Awards and the American Heart Association (Michigan Chapter) Young Investigator of the Year (2012).

Her clinical interest and expertise are in the management of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), particularly in patients with diabetes. She has had significant endovascular and opens surgical revascularization for PAD. Dr. Gallagher is an NIH-funded researcher with a focus on the role of bone marrow stem cells in diabetic wound healing.
