Laura K Ferris, MD, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Dermatology and Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University of Pittsburgh, Director of the Clinical Trials Office at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), and Chief of Dermatology at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
Dr. Ferris also directs the University of Pittsburgh’s psoriasis and pigmented lesions specialty clinics. Her clinical practice focuses on medical dermatology with specialty clinics in psoriasis and cutaneous malignancy. She attended medical school at the University of Maryland, completed her residency in dermatology at the University of Pittsburgh, and earned her doctorate in immunology at Johns Hopkins University. She is actively involved in several clinical trials for novel therapies to manage complex skin diseases including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and hidradenitis suppurativa, and contributes to NIH-funded translational studies aimed at understanding the pathophysiology of psoriasis.
Dr. Ferris also studies novel technologies to improve the early detection of melanoma and population-based skin cancer screening. She has authored over 100 book chapters and manuscripts in peer-reviewed literature.
