Dr. Laura M. Romito is Associate Professor of Oral Biology and Director of the Nicotine Dependence Program at the Indiana University (IU) School of Dentistry. She earned her D.D.S. from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and operated a full-time dental practice prior to entering academia.
After joining the faculty of Creighton University School of Dentistry in 1996, Dr. Romito practiced dentistry part-time and taught courses in operative dentistry, dental materials, and nutrition, serving as clinical faculty in general dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery. As Assistant Professor of General Dentistry, she incorporated health promotion topics such as nutrition and tobacco into the curriculum and served as Editor and author for the first Dental Clinics of North America issue on nutrition and oral health. In 2001, Dr. Romito earned a M.S. degree in Health Promotion from Nebraska Methodist College, and she subsequently completed training and certification as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist by the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Laura M. Romito is a Associate Director for Faculty Development and Curriculum at Indiana University Interprofessional Practice & Education Center.
