Leone Giordano MD

Professor Leone Giordano is senior medical director at the Otolaryngology Unit of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital directed by Professor Mario Bussi and associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and the School of Specialization in Otolaryngology of the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University from Milan. After graduating in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pavia in 1995, he specialized with honors in Otorhinolaryngology at the University of Turin in 2000. Between 2011 and 2012 he finally obtained a II level master's degree in Surgery Aesthetics at the University of Milan.
From the point of view of clinical activity, he follows with particular interest and experience: acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of the pharynx and larynx (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, adenoiditis, laryngitis); inflammatory diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses (rhinitis, sinusitis, polyposis); malformative or post-traumatic conditions of the nasal septum and pyramid causing respiratory obstruction; inflammation of the salivary glands (sialadenitis and possible calculi manifestations); tumor diseases of the head and neck of otorhinolaryngological interest (benign and malignant tumors of the larynx, oral cavity, pharynx).
Leone Giordano focuses his interest on major oncological surgery of the head and neck and on reconstructive surgery with local, pedunculated, and revascularized flaps with microsurgical techniques, also dealing with the reconstruction of nerve lesions. He performed about 90 reconstructions with revascularized free flaps, setting up and performing the vascular micro anastomosis as the first operator.
As far as the research activity is concerned, Dr. Giordano focused on multiple aspects including the quality of life of patients undergoing major oncological surgery of the head and neck district, phonatory rehabilitation using prostheses after total laryngectomy, head & neck surgery, and the introduction of innovative techniques aimed at improving aesthetic results. He is the author and co-author of over 40 scientific publications published in national and international journals. His H index is 9. He constantly participates in national and international sector congresses.
