Lorena Gonzalez, M.D., spent five years as a noted vascular surgeon before deciding to follow a new path and focus on hereditary breast cancer — patients with the BRCA1 mutation for example.
Dr. Gonzalez earned her medical degree from SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine in New York and continued her training at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Making the switch to breast cancer, Dr. Gonzalez then joined the City of Hope where she completed her fellowship in breast surgical oncology.
A firm believer in giving back and serving the community, the bilingual (English/Spanish) Dr. Gonzalez has traveled to Peru to perform surgery for indigenous underserved populations.
