Lorena Martín Aguilar (Barcelona, 1989) graduated in Medicine from the University of Barcelona in 2013. She completed her residency in Neurology at the Germans Trias I Pujol Hospital (2014-2018).
In 2018 she joined the Neuromuscular Unit of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau as a clinical fellow of Neuroimmunology. In 2020 she was awarded a Río Hortega grant from Instituto Carlos III in the Neuromuscular Unit where she developed her doctoral thesis entitled “Study of biomarkers with clinical utility in autoimmune neuropathies”, directed by Dr. Querol and presented in 2021.
She spent 2 months in the laboratory of Dr. Claudia Sommer at the University of Würzburg, Germany, to learn how to perform and interpret skin biopsy as a diagnostic technique for small-fiber polyneuropathies. This stay was financed by a mobility grant for research staff hired within the framework of the AES (M-AES).
Since 2022 she has worked as an associate neurologist and post-doctoral researcher thanks to the granting of a Juan Rodés contract from Instituto Carlos III.
