Dr Pepeta was born and bred in Bizana, Eastern Cape South Africa. He matriculated from Bizana Village High School, in Bizana in 1991. He joined the Faculty of Health Sciences of the then University of Transkei (Now Walter Sisulu University) in 1992. He graduated with MBChB in 1997. He obtained his Diploma in Child Health in 1999. From 2000, he joined King Edward Hospital and University of Natal (Now University of KwaZulu-Natal) in Durban as a Registrar in Paediatrics. He obtained his Fellowship in Paediatrics in 2003. He worked as a Paediatrician in Queenstown, Eastern Cape for some time. In 2005, He joined Chris Hani-Baragwanath Academic Hospital and University of The Witwatersrand to pursue his training in Paediatric Cardiology, which he completed in 2008.

The Health Professions Council of South Africa registered Dr Pepeta as a Paediatric Cardiologist in 2008. Dr Pepeta moved back to the Eastern Cape in 2009 and started a Paediatric Cardiology Unit. This unit was formally registered for training of Fellows in 2010. Dr Pepeta is currently Head of Paediatrics Department and Paediatric Cardiologist in Port Elizabeth Hospital Complex, South Africa.
