Mallory Williams, M.D., MPH, FACS, was the chief of the Division of Trauma & Critical Care and director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit in the Department of Surgery at Howard University Hospital. Williams previously served as the vice chair of the state of Ohio American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. He is a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserve Medical Corps where he served with distinction during Operation Iraqi Freedom as a combat surgeon and chief of surgery with the 345th Combat Support Hospital. He has a faculty appointment at the U.S. Army Trauma Training Center and has trained Forward Surgical Teams for deployment to Afghanistan.

He received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at the chief administrative resident at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center. He also completed an NIH Trauma/Burns Research Fellowship during his residency. He completed his fellowship in surgical critical care at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Afterwards, he completed his Masters of Public Health in health policy and management as a Harvard University Presidential Scholar and Mongan Commonwealth Fellow in Minority Health Policy. He is a “diplomate” of the American Board of Surgery.

Dr Williams has previously held faculty positions at Louisiana State University and the University of Toledo Medical Center where he served as chief of the Division of Trauma, Critical Care & Acute Care Surgery. He has received clinical, research or teaching awards at every institution where he has trained or been employed. He has co-authored over 40 manuscripts and chapters, given scientific presentations all over the world and maintains leadership and committee appointments with the American College of Surgeons, National Medical Association Surgical Section and Society of Black Academic Surgeons.
