Maris Laan PhD

Dr. Maris Laan has received her undergraduate training in biology at the University of Tartu, Estonia, and PhD in genetics at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Before establishing her own research group at the home University in 2003, she accomplished postdoctoral research at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, München, and Marine Biological Laboratories, Woods Hole, USA. Her current main research interests are in reproductive medicine and genetics, covering both basic and translational aspects aiming to implement novel scientific discoveries and tools in clinical practice. She is also a devoted supervisor of young researchers and teaches genetics classes at the University of Tartu to Estonian and international students in medicine. Her original research has led to over 100 publications.
