Dr. Maristela Pinheiro Freire graduated from medical school in 1999, and completed residence on infectious diseases in 2002, both by Campinas University State, Brazil. After that, she performed MSc and PhD on infectious diseases among liver transplant patients at São Paulo University, Brazil.
She worked as an Infectious Diseases consultant in the epidemiological surveillance center of São Paulo state between 2002 and 2005, responsible for investigating several outbreaks.
Dr. Maristela has been an ID consultant for the Transplant Service from 2005 until the present. Also, she has been working in the Infection Control Commission of Sao Paulo University since 2005. Since 2009 she has been working as an infectious diseases assistant at the Sao Paulo cancer institute.
Her main research lines are bacterial infections among solid organ transplants, multidrug-resistant bacterial infections, infections related to implantable catheters, infections among cancer patients, and febrile neutropenia.
