Professor Mark Danton is a Consultant Paediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgeon based at the Scottish National Cardiac Services in Glasgow (Royal Hospital Children & Golden Jubilee National Hospital). He graduated from Queen’s University Belfast and commenced cardiac surgical training at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. He undertook a research fellowship, obtaining his doctorate, at Harvard Medical School, Boston (1998-2000). Following this he trained in pediatric cardiac surgery at Birmingham Children’s Hospital under the mentorship of Dr. Bill Brawn (2000-2001). He was appointed to the Scottish Congenital Cardiac Service in 2003 and was awarded Honorary Professor at the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Glasgow in 2020. His interests include neonatal/infant cardiac repair, valve reconstruction, and arthropathies. He has collaborated in developing a congenital cardiac surgical program in Kharkiv Ukraine through the Novick Foundation. He has supervised seven MD/PhD candidates and has 70+ peer-reviewed publications. He is a member of the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery, a peer reviewer, and a course tutor in the congenital domain.
