Michael Huber MD, PhD

Prof. Dr. Michael Huber is a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Immunology at RWTH Aachen University and head of the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Immunology. The institute focuses on understanding the context-dependent activation of mast cells in physiology and pathophysiology, as well as, the regulated secretion of pro-inflammatory mediators (e.g. histamine, proteases, and cytokines) in the context of the question of which signaling pathways determine qualitative, as well as, quantitative aspects of cellular activation. Prof. Dr. Michael Huber is an internationally leading scientist in mast cell signaling pathways and biology with more than 90 international peer-reviewed publications. He has extensive expertise and experience in establishing in-vitro cellular mast cell functional assays for the discovery and evaluation of new medical substances for inhibition of mast cell activity and regulation of mast cell apoptosis.

Prof. Dr. Michael Huber studied Chemistry and Biochemistry in Erlangen and Berne. In 1997, he got his doctorate degree from the University of Tübingen. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Terry Fox Laboratory in Vancouver, he became in 1999 an Assistant Professor and in 2007 an Associate Professor in Molecular Immunology at the University of Freiburg/ Max Planck Institute for Immunology and Epigenetics. In 2009, Michael was appointed as a University Professor at the RWTH Aachen University.
