Dr. Michael Urban is a board-certified anesthesiologist who has specialized in cardiac anesthesia since 1988. Prior to his anesthesia residency, he completed a PhD. in molecular biology and post-doctoral training at the Fox Chase Cancer Center with Baruch Blumberg, winner of the Nobel Prize for medical research. At Yale, Dr. Urban completed a fellowship in cardiac anesthesia, which included critical care and echocardiography.
After joining HSS in 1990, Dr. Urban soon became Director of the newly expanded Acute Pain Service. Upon expansion of postoperative services, he became Director of the PACU, a position he continues to hold. Dr. Urban also serves as Chairman of the Complex Case Panel, which reviews the preoperative medical requirements of complex patients.
