Michael O'neill BSc, PhD

Dr Michael J. O'Neill received a doctorate in pharmacology from University College in Galway, Ireland and later joined Eli Lilly & Co. where he has worked for over 20 years. He has a strong background in neuro degenerative disease research and has worked extensively on strokes, Alzheimer s disease AD and Parkinson s disease PD . He also has a keen interest in tau pathology and tauopathies PSP and FTD and in ALS research.

O Neill is currently head of the Molecular Pathology Group at Lilly UK where he leads a team of 25 in vitro and in vivo scientists working on novel treatments for AD and PD. He has published more than 94 scientific articles and acted as a reviewer for multiple journals and grant bodies. He has acted as an associate editor for the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and is currently a member of the Grants Review Panel for Alzheimer s Research UK.
