Dr. Nicholas Colyvas is an orthopedic surgeon at the UCSF Sports Medicine Center. He specializes in knee and shoulder arthroscopy, with specific interest in meniscal repair, rotator cuff surgery and biceps tendon surgery. His area of research involves working on techniques to improve meniscus repairs and meniscus preservation to help prevent knee arthritis after injury. He has experience treating rugby players, both professional and amateur athletes.
Colyvas earned his undergraduate degree and his medical degree at Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Cardiovascular Institute at UCSF, and did both his orthopaedic surgery residency and fellowship at UCSF. He is very active in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), and is a member of the Practice Management Committee, as well as co-chair of the AAOD Annual Practice Management Seminar. His outside interests include racing vintage cars worldwide.
