Nicole Lopez, MD, is a board-certified surgeon. She specializes in surgical oncology and colorectal surgery and has a particular interest in caring for patients with advanced, recurrent, and metastatic colorectal cancers. She has expertise in treating hereditary syndromes, diverticulitis, pelvic floor diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, and anorectal diseases. She is skilled in laparoscopy and robotic surgery.

Dr. Lopez’s research focuses on cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and ways to improve surgical care and systems of care for these diseases. Her work in colon rectal surgery and minimally invasive surgery has been featured in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals, including American Journal of Surgery, Journal of Minimally Invasive Surgical Services, Clinics in Colon and Rectal Surgery, and Critical Reviews in Oncogenesis. She has authored book chapters on gastrointestinal malignancy for General Surgery Review and GI Malignancies: Contemporary Issues.

Dr. Lopez completed fellowship training in colorectal surgery with an emphasis in treating inflammatory bowel disease at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and fellowship training in complex general surgical oncology at the University of North Carolina. She completed residency training at UC San Diego School of Medicine and earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. She is board-certified in general surgery. She is a member of several professional medical societies, including the American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and the Association of Women Surgeons.
