Dr. Valles is committed to providing evidence-based treatments to children and adolescents. Her primary therapeutic focus is to help children and adolescents identify their strengths and help them choose behaviors that are more consistent with valued living. She has a particular interest in working with children who have experienced traumatic events, and are having difficulties with their mood, anxiety disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Dr. Valles also conducts numerous types of psychological evaluations, including testing for autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, and diagnostic clarification evaluations. Dr. Valles is able to provide these evaluations and psychotherapy in both English and Spanish. Dr. Valles has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on aggressive behaviors in children, adolescent suicide, the effects of child abuse and neglect on children, and adult ADHD.

Dr. Valles received her clinical psychology doctorate from the University of Iowa and completed a child and adolescent psychology-focused internship which specialized in providing trauma-informed care. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine’s Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Valles was the Program Director of the Autism Clinic for the Harris Health System and is an Assistant Professor for Baylor College of Medicine before joining Thriving Child Center full-time. She still provides training at BCM as a Clinical Assistant Professor.
