Dr. Eickelberg’s research focuses on the molecular events that initiate, perpetuate, or resolve tissue fibrosis. This is relevant to a number of important lung diseases, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), or chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) after lung transplantation. Investigations from his group have identified and mechanistically interrogated TGF-beta and WNT signaling as a novel mechanism driving lung fibrogenesis.
