Dr. Oreste Davide Gentilini has been head of the Breast Surgery Unit and coordinator of the Breast Unit of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan since 2015. He also collaborates at the Casa di Cura La Madonnina.
He obtained a degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1993 and a specialization in General Surgery in 1999 at the University of Milan, both with honors. Since 2001 she has dedicated herself to breast cancer treatment and research after completing a fellowship in the United States to do research at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center.
From 2000 to 2015 he worked at the European Institute of Oncology until he held the position of Senior Deputy Director of the Breast Division. Always for the same Institute from 2014 to 2015, he was a member of the Scientific Review Board.
He is responsible for projects aimed at the conservation of the breast and axillary lymph nodes, even after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and an expert in familial/hereditary neoplasms and in preventive "risk reduction" procedures in women at high genetic risk. He has personally performed over 5,000 breast surgeries. He is the Coordinator and responsible for the SOUND international multicenter study on axillary staging in women with early breast cancer.
Since 2018 he has been a founding member, board member, and vice president of the International Breast Cancer Research Association EU-BREAST (European Breast cancer REsearch Association of Surgical Trialists). Since 2019 he has been a member of the board of directors of ANISC - Italian National Association of Breast Surgeons.
Since 2012 he has been a member of the panel of European experts on breast cancer in young and pregnant women; Dr. Gentilini is also a member of the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Surgical Oncology and since 2018 he has been the specialty editor of the journal The Brest (IF 3,4). He is the author of more than 100 international publications and invited speakers at more than 100 national and international congresses.
