Oussama Wazni, MD, MBA is Section Head, Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing at the Cleveland Clinic. He is also the Director of the Outpatient Electrophysiology Department and Co-Director of the Ventricular Arrhythmia Center, Center for Atrial Fibrillation, and the Atrial Fibrillation Stroke Prevention Center. Dr. Wazni also holds the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Distinguished Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine. He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and cardiac electrophysiology. He specializes in electrophysiology with a special interest in atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia ablation.
Dr. Wazni received a Bachelor's degree in Sciences/Biology from the American University of Beirut, continuing there to complete his medical degree, graduating with distinction in the top 5 percent of his class. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After completing his residency at Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Wazni received a fellowship in cardiology from the University of Texas, Houston, where he became Fellow of the Year. He then returned to Cleveland Clinic for fellowships in cardiology and electrophysiology, becoming Chief Fellow in electrophysiology.
Dr. Wazni was a finalist in the Young Investigator Award presented by the American College of Cardiology in 2004 and, that same year won the Clinical Research Award from the Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Wazni is the principal investigator in several ongoing research studies related to atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia ablation, anticoagulation management in patients undergoing ablation for chronic atrial fibrillation, and the use of low molecular heparin for bridging in patients undergoing implantation of mechanical valves.
