Dr. Paolo Emilio Della Bella is a head physician of the Cardiac Arrhythmology and Electrophysiology Unit of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.

His training takes place at the University of Milan, where he graduates in Medicine and Surgery and specializes in Cardiology (1982) and in Anesthesia and Intensive Care (1990). Among the various experiences abroad, the research period spent at the University of Maastricht, between 1986 and 1987, and the experience in the Cardiac Surgery unit at the Western Ontario University in the United States, and subsequently at the laboratory of Electrophysiology directed by prof. Jackman (Oklahoma City - USA)

He was a head physician at the Monzino Cardiology Center from 1991 to 2009 and subsequently held the position of Head of the Department of Arrhythmology and Electrophysiology Laboratories of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. His contribution to the Electrophysiology discipline is recognized worldwide for his activity in the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias.

The unique and "flagship" activity of San Raffaele is the advanced treatment unit for ventricular arrhythmias, to which patients from all over the country and from Europe refer, characterized by a very high technical profile and a high level of cooperation between the Electrophysiology, Cardiac Surgery, Intensive Care Units for the treatment of advanced heart failure.

Particular scientific interest in the techniques of mapping and electrical imaging of ventricular arrhythmias and in the study of new physical modalities of energy to be used in the chronic treatment of arrhythmias.

Dr. Della Bella is on the Editorial Board of journals such as Europace, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Circulation, and Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology. He is the author of articles published in Circulation Arrhythmia Electrophysiology, European Heart Journal, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Heart Rhythm, International Journal of Cardiology, Europace, JACC Cardiovascular Imaging, Journal of Arrhythmia, and Journal of the American Heart Association. Since 2017 he has also directed the courses organized by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). He is the director of the DASCAM course at the University of Maastricht organized by the Society of Cardiology for the scientific and technical training of the figures who will play a managerial role in the main European structures dealing with Arrhythmology and Electrophysiology.
