Dr. Nghiem is the Michael Piepkorn endowed chair in dermatology research, a UW professor of medicine in the Division of Dermatology and adjunct professor of oral health sciences and pathology. He oversees a laboratory focused on the biology of skin cancer, managing several clinical studies of its genetic mechanisms and optimal clinical management of patients (www.pnlab.org). A particular interest is Merkel cell carcinoma, an aggressive, virus-driven skin cancer for which the immune system plays a particularly important role in controlling (www.merkelcell.org). He attended Harvard College and Stanford University Medical School, and earned a Ph.D. in cancer biology from Stanford. He completed a residency in dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
