Pieter van der Bijl is a cardiologist at SAEndovascular, Kuils River Netcare Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. He has received specialist training in Internal Medicine (MMed, Stellenbosch University, 2011), Anaesthetics (Diploma, Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, 2007), General Cardiology, Imaging Cardiology (Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography, European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging, 2021), Interventional Cardiology and Pacing Cardiology (Certificate in Cardiology, Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, 2014), Radiology (Cardiac Computed Tomography, British Society of Cardiac Computed Tomography, 2017; Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging, European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging, 2018) and Cardiac Research (PhD, Leiden University, 2020) at hospitals in South Africa, the United Kingdom, and The Netherlands. He provides an advanced echocardiography service and collaborates closely with radiologists to provide a comprehensive, multimodality cardiac imaging service to the patients of SAEndovascular. Dr. Van der Bijl has dedicated research interest and has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed journal articles, 75 published abstracts, and 5 book chapters. He has an h-index of 18 and regularly acts as a peer-reviewer for more than 25 scientific journals. He remains an active research affiliate of the Leiden University Medical Centre and is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), as well as the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (FEACVI). He currently serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography (JASE), the European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging (EHJCVI), and the Ethics and Guidelines Committee, as well as the Private Practice Committee of the South African Heart Association.
