Dr. Bhuyan has contributed to Vaccinology by designing, leading, and providing medical guidance for multiple development programs. He was Senior Director of clinical research at Pfizer where he led the pivotal clinical study that supported the licensure of the Trumenba meningococcal B vaccine. At Merck, Dr. Bhuyan directed the development and execution of multiple vaccine clinical trials for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Haemophilus influenzae type b, Rotaviral, and Pneumococcal vaccines and successfully led an investigational hexavalent pediatric vaccine from Phase 2 into Phase 3 trials.
He earned his M.D. and his Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1998 through the NIH-sponsored Medical Scientist Training Program. He completed his fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003, where he currently serves as adjunct Assistant Professor. He has authored dozens of peer-reviewed scientific papers focused on the subject of vaccines. Dr Bhuyan also served as the Medical Lead to develop a TransCelerate Bio-Pharma-sponsored pharma-collaborative, large, historical control database designed to facilitate the development of new medicines. In 2017, he led Inovio Pharmaceuticals’ lead immunotherapeutic compound, VGX-3100, into Phase 3 development.
