Ramsey Ashour MD

Dr. Ramsey Ashour, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Dell Medical School. A UT Austin alum, he completed his residency at the University of Miami and then fellowships in neuro-interventional radiology at Harvard and in complex cranial surgery at Tampa General Hospital. He hopes to help fulfill Austin’s burgeoning need for complex cranial/cerebrovascular care. His professional associations include the Texas Medical Association, Travis County Medical Society, and Texas Association of Neurological Surgeons.

As a passionate clinician, researcher, and educator, he is determined to help redefine the future of medicine in all of these realms. Ashour envisions contributing to the development of a cerebrovascular disease integrated practice unit and implementing clinical pathways that prioritize value to patients instead of the volume of services delivered.

He sees boundless opportunities at UT to collaborate with investigators in the natural sciences and engineering colleges, particularly in the realms of device development, translational research, and 3D-printed cerebrovascular applications. Teaching is the heart and soul of his interest in academics, and he is eager to train and learn from the next generation of leaders in medicine and surgery.

Ashour has been awarded honors such as being inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha in 2006, when he was a junior, and named in Who’s Who Among Students by American Universities and Colleges that same year.

His research interests are Neurosurgery, Cerebrovascular Surgery, Cerebrovascular Disease, Brain Tumor Surgery, and Endovascular Surgery.
