A Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialty certification in surgery of the hand, Dr. Randall Culp is recognized nationally and internationally for his contributions to specialized Orthopaedics. Consistently named as a “Top Doc” and Leading Physician in national and local publications, Dr. Culp’s passion for research and advancement in Orthopaedics is the driving force behind his “never say never” mentality when it comes to maximizing a patient’s successful outcome. Dr. Culp acts as the treating physician for the local professional sports teams, including the Phillies, Sixers, Flyers, and Eagles, and is regularly consulted by teams nationwide as well. He is also actively involved and works with athletic trainers at the collegiate level, including Villanova, St. Joseph’s University, and Temple University.
Dr. Culp refuses to sit still. In addition to treating patients, teaching, writing, and staying active in research, his passion motivates him to find time to give back. Each year, Dr. Culp recruits a team of 7-10 volunteers, including nurses, occupational therapists, anesthesiologists, and other Orthopaedic surgeons to travel to an underprivileged country for 1-2 weeks at a time.
“We spend our entire time meeting people-adults and children-evaluating their needs and providing surgery and care for as many as possible during our stay. It is truly so rewarding to see the face of a mother whose child will gain functionality in their hands, something they never had before. We see a lot of hard-working men who have untreated injuries, some which have prevented them from being able to use their entire arm. We are able to repair many of the injuries and give these husbands and fathers the ability to at least work and provide for their families.” Not only does “Team Culp” treat patients, they also have translators on site so that they can educate and train the local medical professionals. “Our goal is to leave them with skills they would have never otherwise obtained.” It is a lot of work, with very little downtime but the consensus from the team members is consistent, “It’s truly exhausting but so worth it.” Dr. Culp’s most recent missions have been to Honduras and Peru.
