Dr. Strong is the holder of the Dielmann Distinguished Chair in Aging and is the Associate Director for Translational Research of the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies. He is a Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and is a Senior Research Career Scientist in the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. He is the PI for one of three sites for the Aging Interventions Testing Program which was established by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) in 2004 to investigate the potential of dietary and pharmaceutical interventions to promote healthy aging.

He is Director of the San Antonio Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Biology of Aging and is Co-Director of the San Antonio Claude D. Pepper, Older Americans Independence Center. The focus of each of these centers is on discovering compounds that promote healthy aging. He is also funded by a grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs to investigate biogenic aldehydes as potential therapeutic targets in Parkinson’s disease.
