Dr. Richard J. Schilling, MBBS, MD, FESC is a Professor of Cardiology and Electrophysiology at the Barts Health NHS Trust. He established the arrhythmia research program at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. Barts was one of the first centers to carry out randomized clinical trials investigating the interventional treatment of cardiac arrhythmia and he has developed and validated techniques for using novel technological applications like 3D image integration into mapping systems for the treatment of arrhythmia. These innovations have reduced radiation exposure and improved success rates for patients.
He has a busy clinical practice specializing in interventional ablation for complex arrhythmia. He was one of the teams that led the successful merger of the Heart Hospital and Barts trust cardiovascular units to form the biggest cardiovascular center in the UK.
He now serves as the clinical director for strategy and commercials for Barts Hospital, and he is responsible for a team of strategic project leaders and the private practice team at Barts Hospital.
He is also the medical director for the Arrhythmia Alliance and the Atrial Fibrillation Association, two international charities supporting patients with heart rhythm problems through education and influencing government policy.
