Dr. Richard Rigler Saxon joined North County Radiology Medical Group in 1997 and continues as an Interventional Radiologist at San Diego Imaging Medical Group. He is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology with the American Board of Radiology with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Vascular and Interventional radiology. Dr. Saxon completed his undergraduate studies in biomedical sciences at the University of California at Berkeley in 1982. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of California at Los Angeles and completed a Radiology Residency at the University of California at San Francisco. Dr. Saxon then completed a Fellowship at the Dotter Institute of Interventional Therapy at Oregon Health Sciences University and stayed on as an Assistant Professor of Interventional, Radiology until 1997. For over a decade, he was an assistant clinical professor at UCSD in the department of radiologY. Dr. Saxon has received numerous honors and awards including a certificate of distinction for his undergraduate work at Berkeley as one of 10 graduates in 1982 considered for the University Medal. He was Phi Beta Kappa as an undergraduate and elected alpha omega alpha on graduating from medical school. Dr. Saxon and his colleagues are, internationally recognized for their contributions to pioneering research on the use of stents, grafts for blockages in arteries in the legs, as well as for the creation of TIPS. His current areas, of interest, include the use of bioactive stents and balloons to prevent restenosis. More, recently, Dr. Saxon has been elected a U.S. News and World Report Top Doctor by his peers, every year since 2012.
