Dr. Tancer is board-certified in family practice and a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, for which he also serves on the Committee on Practice Management. He has served in various capacities at the NJAOPS since 1989, including President, and is currently Chairman of the Committee on Managed Care. He has also held leadership positions in the Bergen-Passaic Osteopathic Medical Society and the Morris County Osteopathic Society.

Dr. Tancer has also taken an active role in the education of osteopathic medical students, helping to teach the physical diagnosis and primary care course at the Touro School of Osteopathic Medicine in New York City and serving as a preceptor for the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, Touro and UMDNJ's School of Osteopathic Medicine. After earning his medical degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, he completed a rotating internship at Union Hospital and a surgical residency at Saddlebrook Hospital.
