Dr. Rita Berisio is Research Director at CNR-IBB. Over the years, she has received in-depth training in chemistry and structural biology in highly recognized European institutions such as the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the Max Planck Institute in Hamburg.
Dr. Rita Berisio trained in the lab of Prof. Ada Yonath, laureate of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009. Her group uses a wide combination of techniques in molecular biology, high-throughput protein purification and protein engineering, macromolecular crystallography, and other biophysical-chemical techniques like CD, fluorescence spectroscopy, and light scattering. Biochemical studies include enzyme assays and in vitro functional characterization.
Dr. Berisio has published over 130 papers in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, such as Nature Structural Biology, Molecular Cell, Journal of the American Chemical Society, and PNAS, book chapters, and one international patent. She is an editor of several journals, a member of the editorial board of The Scientific World Journal and Current Medicinal Chemistry, and a review editor of Frontiers in Microbiology. Dr. Berisio is also a Principal Investigator and coordinator for several regional, national, and international funding initiatives, as well as projects with several companies.
