Dr. Prouty is a native Coloradoan but was raised in San Diego, California. Dr. Prouty started his practice in Colorado in 1985 and served as a consultant at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Department of Surgery. He co-founded a large subspecialty practice in Denver and served as the Center Director for 28 years. He joined Specialty Eye Care (SEC) in Parker, Colorado in 2013. Dr. Prouty is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Colorado Optometric Association (COA). He was selected as the COA’s “Young Optometrist of the Year” in 1988, “Optometrist of the Year” in 2004 and was the 2007 recipient of their Distinguished Service Award.
Dr. Prouty is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), is a founding member of the national Optometric Glaucoma Society (OGS) and served on the OGS executive committee. He is also the founding and current president of the Colorado Optometric Glaucoma Society (COGS). Dr. Prouty has developed and co-patented an instrument used for the human lacrimal system and has been the Primary Investigator (PI) in several industry related research projects. He is the director of the University of Houston’s “Residency in Ocular Disease” at SEC while holding positions at several universities as an adjunct professor and is a clinical professor at Rocky Vista University, College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a recognized international lecturer and has published numerous articles in national and international publications. Dr. Prouty and his wife, Lee Ann, ride horses, wrangle chickens and dogs, and enjoy a pastoral life east of Parker. For fun, he hikes, bikes, ATVs and explores the Colorado high country but is especially passionate about fly-fishing in the Leadville area with his children and his 3 grandchildren.
