Dr. Robert Jankov completed his medical studies at the University of Melbourne, Australia and trained in Paediatrics at the Royal Children’s Hospital, also in Melbourne. He subsequently completed a Clinical Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of Toronto followed by a PhD (at the Department of Physiology, University of Toronto) in Dr. Keith Tanswell’s laboratory at the Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute. Robert has been the recipient of a number of prestigious training and salary awards, including a Postdoctoral Research Award from the CIHR/Canadian Lung Association (2001-2004), a Career Development Award from the Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program (CCHCSP; 2004-2008) and, most recently, a CIHR New Investigator Award (2008-2013).

Currently, Robert is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Paediatrics and Physiology at the University of Toronto and a Clinician-Scientist at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. His research interests are focused upon the cellular and molecular mechanisms of chronic pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary vascular remodeling in the newborn. His lab is studying the effects of several novel treatments for the prevention and reversal of chronic pulmonary hypertension in neonatal rat models, among which include antioxidant therapies, Rho-kinase inhibitors and inhibitors of smooth muscle growth factors. His work is currently funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
