Dr. Robert Levine began his career working for the Navy as a submarine sonar technician with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University. He did research and development in medical ultrasound, applying the principles shared with sonar technology. He then attended Medical School at the University of Connecticut, graduating in 1981. He did his residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he had a teaching appointment at Harvard Medical School. Following an Endocrine Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine, he joined the clinical faculty at Yale. He subsequently had a teaching appointment at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and he is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Endocrinology at Dartmouth Medical School.

Dr. Levine has a strong interest and expertise in thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer. Dr. Levine set up an Endocrinology practice in New Hampshire 20 years ago. He is a co-director of the Thyroid Ultrasound and Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy Course for the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. He has been an instructor in that course for more than ten years and has performed over 5000 thyroid biopsies.

He is an Editor of the textbook Thyroid Ultrasound and Ultrasound-Guided Biopsy, published in 2009. He has taught ultrasound courses both nationally and internationally, at locations as distant as Amman, Jordan. He is on the faculty of Endocrine University, held annually at the Mayo Clinic. He has taught ultrasound courses to over 2000 endocrinologists.
