Dr. Robert Smigielski is the co-founder and Medical Director at Life Institute and also a Scientific Projects Chief Consultant, Lecturer & Instructor at CEM Freelance Medical Education Center. He was an initiator and co-founder of the Carolina Medical Center and remains attached in 1998. He specializes in orthopedic surgery of the knee, and Achilles tendon pathology treatment, with particular emphasis on reconstructive procedures, including art ligaments and cartilage transplants. He has many years of experience in sports medicine - led a team of doctors caring for, among others, the Polish Olympic team, football, and swimming. He treated the leading Polish athletes, led by Justyna Kowalczyk.
He is a member of ISAKOS (International Society of arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine), EFOST (European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedic Sports Traumatology), and ICRS (International Cartilage Repair Society). As the only Pole belongs to the elite ACL Study Group, bringing together the most eminent authorities on the treatment of anterior cruciate ligament.
Dr. Smigielski is currently president of Sport Medica SA - belonging to the LUX MED Group company operating the Carolina Medical Center. He is the author of a revolutionary theory of the construction of the anterior cruciate ligament. On the basis of the unprecedented anatomical studies by Dr. Smigielski, he found that the ligament is cross-sectional flat and not round, as previously claimed. Publications on the subject were published in reputable journals orthopedic. The discovery involves profound changes in methods of treating the anterior cruciate ligament and there are many indications that it will significantly improve its effectiveness.
